Predators must recognize kindred spirits. Our cat Fraxinus (Fraxy) is death on flies, moths and other home invaders. However, when we took in this preying mantis she watched but never harrassed it. We thought it a wise move because the mantis might have been Fraxy's match -- ferocious, fast and fearless. They lived together without altercation for 2 months, Fraxy seemingly most interested in the mantis' cricket dismantling technique.
