The flowers are exquisite but borne high on trees 20 years and older so they often escape notice. 
 

Vital statistics

A very large native North American tree (70', may grow to over 100', 1/3 as wide as tall) also known as the tulip poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera). Almost always straight of trunk, fast growing, and growing well in almost any soil yet very tolerant of wet soil.
