Cornelian cherry

enlarge this image

Cornus mas is a small tree called Cornelian cherry for the bright red fruits that delight the birds in late summer. It could as well be called golden glow tree for its sunny bloom, earlier than forsythia, or maroon marvel for its fall color. Hardy to zone 5 and very nice in part shade as well as full sun.
