Stealing plant labels
enlarge this imageThey pluck them off wires hung from branches, pry them nails and all from posts, carry them off with 18" stake attached... the plant tag stealers!
Green thumbs down
To those who steal plant labels at botanical gardens and display
gardens because they want to remember the name of a plant. These
thieves not only vex those of us who follow behind and wish we knew
the name of that plant, but they create a lot of work for garden
staff. This is not a rare crime -- replacing missing tags is one of
the biggest jobs at every botanical garden.
Ten years ago we understood why so many tags walked, but now...
wouldn't those who don't have paper and pencil to record the name,
have a cell phone so they could just take a picture of the tag?
