Cut until it's scary
So says a third generation apple grower
We'd been speaking with our favorite apple grower about pruning
trees, a man who grew 30 kinds of apples on the farm he'd worked
first with his father and grandfather and now with his children and
grandchildren. We said, "Sometimes we look at what we've done and
think, 'Oh, too much!'" That drew a smile and:
When I go out into the orchard when the guys are pruning, if I'm
not scared about how much they've cut, then they haven't cut
enough.
