Peach
Prunus persica
The peach is a member of the rose family. The fruits of many
members of the family are called stone fruits or drupes for their
single, hard seed and fleshy covering. Cherry, apricot, plum and
nectarine are also drupes. The rose hip is a drupe, although not so
fleshy it's just as edible and rich in vitamins as its cousins. The
bramble-y members of the Rose family, including blackberry and
raspberry produce an aggregate of drupes, each one with its single
hard seed.
