Plant combinations that work together to prolong seasonal interest and also help reduce maintenance time are a designer's dream and a maintainer's friend. Here is spike flowered Camassia with the bold, broad spreading, still emerging leaves of sea kale (Crambe maritima). Soon the sea kale leaves will grow above the foliage of the Camassia, a bulb that will be going dormant anyway. That means the only tidying up to do around this bulb planting is to deadhead the flower stalks.
