Predator4733

These are the huge eyes of a dragonfly larva and are indicative of a predator. This creature, a mosquito larvae eating machine, is a welcome addition to any pond enviroment.

Do not scrub your pond each spring or you will prevent dragonflies from becoming established there. Most dragonfly species spend about 11 months in this form, then leave the pond in spring or summer for a brief but colorful aerial life, eating adult mosquitoes and gnats on the wing and laying the eggs of their next generation.
